Pilot Drinking Water Source Protection Project – Erne Laragh, Cavan

Implementing water source protection measures in the Erne-Larah catchment area to safeguard watercourses and enhance land management.

Conwell Contracts was appointed as Principal Contractor on a standalone contract for the installation and implementation of water source protection measures. The scope of works was to install and implement a series of source protection measures across the Erne-Larah catchment area, Co. Cavan. These measures include but are not limited to the following:

  • Stock-proofing of watercourses
  • Tree planting next to watercourse
  • Drainage Repair
  • Gateway Relocation
  • Farm Track Improvement
  • Separation of clean and dirty water

This Uisce Éireann / Irish Water project involved installing Solar Pumps and drinking troughs along the river Laragh in County Cavan as part of an Uisce Éireann Irish Water scheme to improve water quality. Stock proof fencing and native species hedging was installed along the riverbank to keep livestock out of the river and new drinking troughs installed to provide livestock access to clean water.
